I just checked in at Camden Lock Hotel, and though it might not look stunning from the outside, I completely agree with the positive reviews I read.
I booked a single room ensuite, and that's exactly what I got: a nice clean room with shower, wc a.s.o.
My room is located on the third floor, without elevator, and it's on the front with a nice view over Chalk Farm Road and the Roundhouse.
Addendum Saturday Sept. 10
Yesterday when arriving first at my room I saw the positive aspects:
3rd floor without elevator : no elevator noise and no noise from upper floor as there is none (I once stayed in a room in NY YH next door to the elevator...that's been a sleepless night, I can
tell you!)
Room at the end of the corridor: less passage of guests
Well here's how my night has been:
- I went to sleep around 11:45 pm local time (00:45 am my home time GMT+1)
It took some time to fall asleep, the road is noisy and busy, yes, but if I would be looking for quiet nights, I'd rather stay at home in my rural tiny little village
- around 00:50am (1:50 am GMT+1) I woke up by the noises of the lady in #311 having sex and afterwards a shower -which was far more annoying
- 2:36am (3:36 am GMT+1) my room is at the far end of the corridor but still neighbors on the opposite side...they are back home and discussing in the corridor their next day activities
-well thank you!
- 6:48am (7:48 GMT+1) I wake up and by looking at my watch I discover that I had managed to get a full 6 hours sleep without waking! Not bad - honestly ! I can tell you about numerous nights when
I was sleeping out and waking each hour.
-7:30 (8:30 GMT+1) taking a shower - no hot water though it keeps running for several minutes which gives me an icy refreshing wake-up shower
Later I tell the receptionist about this little problem an he appologizes and tell me that I would have to let the water run longer (which I did for rhe whole duration of my shower about 6-8
minutes) and ask if there's anything he good do to make 'me feel better' ... but I'm fine.
Breakfast @Coffe Lounge was okay, it's only £5,00. Staff not very friendly, neither interested.
I would still recommend this hotel for singles, couples or young people on the go for one or two nights.
It's a good quality hotel in a great area.
