So, what's the HIGH LINE?
The High Line is a former railroad in the West Side of Manhattan built around 1930 to transport meat, dairy products a.s.o into warehouses and factories. It was a very important railroad also known as "Life Line of NYC". Nevertheless by 1980 the trains had stopped and transportation of these goods by rail had been completely replaced by trucking.
Nature was taking over slowly the last remaining part of the line so that it was going to be demolished, but neighborhood residents fought for the preservation of this landmark. With help and support of the former Mayor Bloomberg and the City Council, the High Line was transformed into a one-of-a-kind park and public landscape. It extends from West 34th (North) to Gansevoort Street (South). There are not only the diverse and changing gardens to discover, but art and architecture are amazing too.
Absolutely WORTH A VISIT ! You'll definitely enjoy a stroll and discover parts of NYC under a new perspective.

At the South end of the High Line we turned West to Hudson River Park and walked further down South.
Hudson River Park has been a massiv development on the West waterfront of Manhattan starting in 1999.
You can peacefully stroll along Hudson River, go sunbathing or take advantage of any of those many sports facilities and offers. There are many lovely and versatile play areas for kids, awesome and lots of basketball courts and plenty of spacious dog parks.
If you visit NYC, please take some time to relax and explore Hudson River Park, which stretches from 59th Street (North) to Battery Park (South).

There are numerous cruises offered and for our first family trip to NYC, I chose a 'quick' one hour Hornblower Cruises and booked with NY citypass C3. It was exactly what we had hoped for and not too crowded.
The kids were amazed by the sight of Miss Liberty as this had been one of the main attractions my eldest son had been waiting for to see.
Afterwards, we strolled allong the streets and passed South Street Seaport Museum, headed to Wall Street, saw NY Stock Exchange and Trinity Church and then turned North. We walked up North for some more blocks, passed by World Trade Center, but didn't visit until few days later. So we kept on walking and headed back North again to the hotel.
On this particular Wednesday, we had other plans for the evening. . . .
Stay tuned . . . . . for the next episode !
